CALVIN UNIVERSITY HOLDS GRADUATION CEREMONY BEHIND BARS

The Calvin Prison Initiative, a partnership between Calvin University, Calvin Theological Seminary, and the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC), was started in 2015. Faculty from the university and seminary teach courses at Handlon Correctional Facility each semester and students who complete the five-year program earn a bachelor-of-arts degree in faith and community leadership.

” . . it (The Word of GOD) Judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from the sight of GOD. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to Whom we must give account.”

“To GOD belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth. Whether you show what is in your mind or conceal it, GOD calls you to account for it. He forgives whom He pleases and punishes whom He pleases. For GOD has Power over all things.”

Sudden focus on abortion, Roe v. Wade shifts focus of midterm elections

https://www.syracuse.com/politics/2022/05/sudden-focus-on-abortion-roe-v-wade-shifts-focus-of-midterm-elections.html

The draft opinion surfaced just as the most competitive phase of the primary season was beginning, with races unfolding Tuesday in Ohio and Indiana. While the political fallout will take months to settle, this much is clear: Rarely in the modern era has a Supreme Court case had the potential to so dramatically reshape American life and politics.

“I hope that women across this country are going to rise up and realize this isn’t theoretical anymore,” warned Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

Nigeria’s Chibok Girls: Why was this former captive treated differently?

Ms. Hassana Adamu, then 18, was among the more than 200 girls stolen from their school dormitory in the middle of the night on April 14, 2014.

“I want the government to assist me with good things,” she told me. “I want to go back to school and to have a better life,” says Ms. Hassana Adamu.

“Is it because we stayed so long or because we were already married? Maybe that is why the government does not want to take care of us,” she added.

Ms Adamu got “married” to a Boko Haram fighter about two years into her “captivity” – many of the girls felt they had little choice – and her so-called husband is among the many militants that have surrendered to the Nigerian government in the past year, following intensified anti-terror operations by the military. The Nigerian military stated that 7,000 jihadists surrendered during one week in March alone.

Ms Adamu and her “husband” spent about five months in Maidugiri, the Borno state capital, in separate sections of a camp for repentant Boko Haram fighters and their wives. Afterwards, she and her two children were sent home to her parents in Chibok while the man returned to his family in the north-eastern border town of Banki.

“It was not a real marriage,” she said. “I want a better life for myself and my children. I am never going back to him.”

Mr Yakubu Nkeki (the chairman of the missing girls’ parents association) worries that the government’s apparent loss of interest in the Chibok girls could mean that the 109 still missing may never be reunited with their families, even if they are or can be rescued.

Ms Adamu believes that she is entitled to the same opportunities as her classmates. If nothing else, she wants to be included in the scholarship scheme at the AUN (American University of Nigeria).

“It worries me so much because we started the suffering together but the other girls have become like American people while I am at home taking care of babies,” she said.

I’m sad my sisters are still in captivity, says

rescued Chibok girl Grace Dauda

Tracing the history of the Chibok abduction, which has since gained global acclaim, with even the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement having branches across continents, Coordinator of Bring Back Our Girls (Lagos), Habiba Balogun, said “276 girls were abducted, 57 jumped out of the bus as they were being taken away; government negotiated the release of 82 and later another 21 girls. A few others also escaped or were liberated by the army, but there are still 109 Chibok girls in captivity, whose families are still crying, still begging God for them to be released.”

She said all Nigerians are now a metaphor for Chibok girls, stressing that the series of abductions and attacks, including the recent Kaduna-Abuja train bombing and abduction more than underline this.

In an attempt to capture the trauma parents of the yet to be released girls are going through, Balogun said, “If your child is dead, she is dead, but for her to be missing, that is a nightmare. And to even know that your child is in the hands of people who are not kind, to know that your child is in a condition that nobody would pray to be in; in a forest, with no shelter, no clean water, no regular food, and subject to God knows what, is something you don’t want to imagine.”

The Stanford PhD student with a mission to graduate 10,000 Black engineers by 2025

 Provided by CNBC
Favour Nerrise, National Chairperson, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

Only 5% of developers, engineers and programmers are Black, according to data from /dev/color, a non-profit that helps companies find Black tech talent. Nerrise says she is the only Black woman in her 160-person electrical engineering Ph.D. cohort. But she and NSBE are hoping to increase these numbers through Game Change 2025, a strategic plan that Nerrise implemented to see 10,000 Black engineers graduate annually by 2025.

Children as young as third grade are now being exposed to NBSE, which Nerrise says was a necessity. “And we might even need to go all the way down to like, kindergarten,” she says, “because we found that if the kids weren’t exposed early, Black and brown students typically were at a disadvantage of catching up in mathematics and science.”

Salvation of GOD is for all Mankind

Salvation does not depend upon one’s connection with any group but on one’s right beliefs and good deeds. Whoever goes before Allah with these provisions will find his reward with Him, for the judgement of Allah will be based on one’s real worth.

GOD in the Arabic language is Allah (The GOD), in the Arabic script it is spelled أللهُ .

I am a Muslim, (Sunnah) following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (upon him be blessings and peace from GOD) just as Islam is practiced universally (throughout the world). “I am not, nor have I ever been a member of the Nation of Islam;” (i.e., followers of Elijah Mohammad and connected groups). https://livingislam101.com/islam-essential-beliefs/ What they did as a collective group (the Nation of Islam) is something I benefited from, just as other African American’s. But because I am a Muslim does not subjugate me too them no more than to some Arab.

I have been worshipping Allah (GOD), making salat (sujood/prostration) for over forty years. All power belongs to Allah. If we look to GOD, to promote GOD consciousness, worship of GOD as our ‘salvation,’ the life that He wants for “all mankind,” worship Him alone without no associate, then all will have a clearer understanding of their ‘human’ relationship to Allah (GOD), affording to all the opportunity to progress as individuals ‘within the collective,’ based on the word of GOD and His Messenger صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ سَلَّمُ. Here, we have Sunnah, Shi’a; (and their differences), as well as people of other Faiths, Jews, Christians, etc. whom we should not expect to conform to what someone else believes particularly when the historical evidence clearly shows the Nation of Islam grappling with the most basic and fundamental aspects of Islam (because of their savior and savior day – Allah is the only object of prayer/worship) and accepting them into their lives as Muslims all over the world. I am a witness to this, for over forty years. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship, prayers but Allah; and Muhammad is His messenger.

With no doubt, Allah is aware – knowing all things, past, present, and future. In order to teach us He sometimes uses a question (as if asking), when He is creator and sustainer of all, fully cognizant, Aware. As in sura 95:8 of Quran:

Is not Allah the wisest of Judges?

 أَلَيۡسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَحۡكَمِ ٱلۡحَـٰكِمِينَ

I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship, prayers but Allah; and Muhammad is His messenger.

Why? Is there a savious day celebrated by some Muslims?
